Quote directly from customer on Checkatrade...

'I have bought a unvented direct hot water cylinder for which I want installed in the loft and the existing tank removed from the landing airing cupboard I'm an electrician so I will do all the control wiring.'

How do I politely decline this one... Warning signs for me is that he has bought the unvented cylinder himself and I have yet to meet someone who just works as a spark who knows how to wire in heating controls properly.

Tell him your G3 has expired.

There's not a great deal of wiring on a direct cylinder so he's building up his side of the work!

Ask him what his dynamic flow and pressure are as Simon said, then ask if he's had the beams in the loft surveyed and tested to ensure they take the weight..

really shows how little an idea people have about time scales and pricing!!

That Rated People thing is exactly why I joined one day and left the same day lol.

yeah i pretty much did the same, but stayed on there free listing, have got some jobs from it aswell

His business website address goes to the Vistaprint page so I am guessing he's just started his business..

Have told him if he can't give me results of water mains testing I will charge him an hour to go and check it first prior to booking in an installation.

Will see what he comes back with. Nothing I suspect!! (and hope).

never pay for jobs though

There lead fees are absolutely stupid to be honest. Also, if you get a bad lead there is a no refund policy now. That's the main reason I left, well that and the stupid pricing customers put in for jobs.

Thank god. He said no as he also needs it done within 2 weeks lol.

Same here, stopping the refunds for shonkey leads stopped me using it.

Well, if they refunded all the dodgy lead income how could they afford the swanky tv adverts?

sod the swanky adverts.
ive been in their offices.

by now they must have all the plumbing done in gold.

saying that i did get a massive freebie bag and 50 quid screwfix vouchers...

I cancelled it within a couple of hours of signing up. I got the £50 voucher, bought the leads but thought.... nah!
If they gave me 5grand of free leads I'm not sure I could be bothered to follow them up.
Its a strange concept but obviously very profitable for some

I used them when they first started, had some decent jobs out of it, and have still got all the customers as regulars.
There are too many similar companies out there doing the same now.
