Hi,

Since this morning each time it starts up the boiler seems to have taken to making a screeching howl sound.

It also made a crazy knocking noise like someone was kicking in the back door ... which it stopped when I killed the power.

It's under a service contract, but as it's freezing I guess my question is 'is it safe to use until they come to look' - also suggestions as the problem would be appreciated.

I took a video which might help:

We do NOT give advice on the repair of boilers or clues as to what the fault might be.

These are not suitable for diy repair. They will kill you given half a chance.

Get a gsr in.
