Hello,

If a previous thermostat has been removed from a wall fixing and been made safe and plastered over, can it be dug out and reconnected?

Thanks,
Tom

it can if the wirings still there, would need to be tested and make sure the wires ok first but yes

Ok, thanks. My next question is regarding buying a new thermostat. Are the connections used to wire it to a boiler universal? I.e. the wires will connect to any thermostat purchased?

no tbh best to either get a spark/heating eng out to check wires are ok/ check which stat you could have

Hi & welcome.
check what supply your old stat had from the wiring box/boiler is first. might be volts free or have 3 wires,1 for a neutral.

The old thermostat has been plastered over. Will a plumber be willing to dig that out, or will I have to do it in preparation? I need to have a new thermostat ready for him to install.

How deep is the plaster? or do you mean the 1g back-box where the wires are located. If your unsure I would leave it up to your plumber

Fear you will get hit with a 38.11 closure shortly unless you register dear guest.
And you 2 could help croppie out here.
