installed a direct cylinder all was well except i have a very miniscule tiny leak on the heating element i originaly put some green boss around the thread plus the gasket should i have put ptfe around instead and if so can i stop the cold feed and loosen and without draining down and put some ptfe

Either tighten it more or drain a few litres out the cylinder take it out and put some ptfe on.

its pretty much as tight as it can be without distorting the cylinder ill probably drain and put some ptfe cheers tamz how many wraps shall i put round

shouldnt realy need tape as the seal is achieved by compresion of the washer between the two flanges i would put plenty of white jointing compound on both side of the washer

went back today and the leak has stopped i think the washer was soaking up and i think a bit of excess water come from that so cheers all for the advice, wired up the thermo and hope shes happy,
