Just an update to anyone who was following the thread on this site: Tify to gas engineer, what will it take?

I got a DM from a user asking for an update, he like myself was gobsmaked at the level of abuse I got from asking a basic question.

Thanks Tom for the DM, I managed to pass in 2019 after a dealings with ACS and a great local company who helped enourmously (not like the abusive yobs in the thread linked above) and have since been maintaining my properties (some 49 now and growing). I also do free work for my local OAPS of around 10 hours a week as I have quite a lot of free time to offer. I also train too now. I have also gained an MSC in electrical engineering specialising in digital electronics.

Looking back, I know I was confrontational, that was because I was stunned by the replies, me being a helpful chap I naturally thought I would get help but only got dont bother its harder than you think mate answers from a few old gas technicians who felt threatened or needed to feel important.

In all honesty to anyone thinking about being a gas tech, go for it, its really not that hard except having to deal with people, some very questionable people haha.

One DM in five years?

Congratulations on making the career change, you may now appreciate that most enquiries we get are from folks that are underqualified, have little to no experience, over age and just waiting to spaff their many thousands on accelerated Gas Safe courses.

Unusually for a career change enquiry this didn't apply to you or perhaps due deference wasn't paid to your many qualifications because you sure like telling us about them. Boy you're precious and the fact that your'e back here chirping after all this time confirms it. I'm sure your former work collegues were pleased to see the back of you and probably necessitated the change of environment.

Nonetheless thank you for the feedback as it'll prove useful to someone free of charge just like the many of us that protect their status, jobs and experience by giving up their time to be here.
