Thanks,
Dan

Find a phonebook or such and ring/annoy every plumbing business you can. Do Internet searches for local businesses if they say call back in a couple of weeks then call back in a week, let them know you're keen!

hi dan welcome to the forums. hang out at your local plumbers merchants or builders merchants.

Or even possibly say you can work for free for a trial period to get your foot in the door?

Essex is full plumbers (like any other town or city) there has got to be one that could take you on
Phone them all

I'm based on the border of Essex & London , I get asked all the time , but my lads at college learning plumbing so his with me

Good luck matey, Just keep pestering am sure something will come up.

I am in the same boat at the moment and I work in a plumbing/building merchant, I pester all the time just to get experience to work towards the NVQ. You do get some plumbers who will completely fob you off and some if not most will be really friendly and offer advice even if they can't help you out.
Have you tried venturing out on your own just to do some little jobs just to pick up experience?

Expect lots and lots of hard graft, frustration and many knock backs, but persevere and someone out there will take you on.

Best of luck to you.
