IM 26 completed level 2 nvq in plumbing and central heating last year have 5 months experience working with gas engineer assisting in installing combi's and working alone hanging rads an draining down systems repairing toilets, taps etc. I have been on my level 3 gas course for 5 weeks 2 days a week, jus wanted some work to better my skills and also some tips on portfolio needed for gas safe registration?? Any feedback would be most appreciated thanks

Loads of pics doing a variety of tasks. 25 boiler installs is no good if you want to do boiler fires and cookers in the acs.

Get as much as you can.

Did you want someone to give you work off the forum?

post your area you might get lucky.

I am looking for work a few days a week,. I'm in southend, at college Mondays an Tuesdays, have my own basic tools an transport. Any gas engineers need a hand??? And also would b helping me at the same time

Thanks mate, jus a little unsure of next steps after course, I'm on the level 3 gas course 6014-03, I'm told I have to complete additional boiler course with same college, have to build up portfolio to work towards gas safe, then impression I have is that I'm qualified to work on boilers, and gas appliances. Any info or anything else u think I will need to do

no you will only be qualified to touch boilers and pipework on small installations when you are gas safe registered and only then. you will need to build up a work portfolio for cookers, gas fires ect ect to be able to take the tickets to work on them.

So my work portfolio I will fill with work I am doing with a qualified gas engineer, and working with an engineer permits me to be working with gas before I am gas safe registered? Bit of a mouthful I know jus want to be sure of my next steps once I finish college. Appreciate the help

no, you will be under the supervision of a gas safe engineer, you can only work with gas while supervised by him/her and as such he should check all work you do (within reason), he also has to have the tickets(qualifications) to work on that applience type.

your portfolio you will fill out with work with appliences and gas pipework to show you have experiance with them and from that take exams for each indervidual applience.

what does your course give you ? core domestic gas ?

from the sounds of it you need to have an indepth talk with your college to understand what you need and what you're getting at the end qualification wise.
