What qualifications do you actually have to have?

I know people who are Gas Safe but do not have tech cert or nvq level 3.

Obviously you need your ACS but I don't an NVQ in plumbing and I am gas safe registered

What qualifications do you actually have to have?

I know people who are Gas Safe but do not have tech cert or nvq level 3.

I needed a NVQ Lvl 2, plus they took on board that I had years of experience, as well as unvented ect. Then I did a 10 week college course on core gas safety.

Finally I had to produce a comprehensive portfolio of gas work, photo's, paperwork and write ups. Then I was allowed to sit my ACS, CCN1, CEN1.

In short what that means is, CORE GAS SAFETY, BOILERS, COMBUSTION ANALYSERS.

I could get registered with just ACS (CORE) but that would just allow me to do pipework and no appliances.

I hope that clears it up for you.

Talk to the training centres, it varies on your experience. if you're into plumbing they'll move you on quite quickly.
Complete beginners, some will put you thro' gas nvq in as little as 6 weeks !!! then you'll have to get on the job training , then ACS.

Personally there is no substitute for good training, don't rush it!

I'd have everybody do the full apprenticeship in Gas or Plumbing, 3 years minimum, no short cuts before sitting the ACS exams for Gas Safe Registration.

When you qualify, try to stick with a couple of boiler makes & go on their training courses, get to really know their products & Engineers.[ for advice]

If you then want to service/repair you know the way around the boiler.

Customers will see through you eventually if you can only service aplliances, & not repair them.

Good luck

it depends what experience you have. you dont need to be a plumber to work on gas, thats because its a different trade!!!!!!!!11 gas fitter who are fully qualified and expeienced in gas are not plumbers are they?????

Agree with Fuzzy wholeheartedly, plumbers are plumbers & maybe gas registered,
Gas engineers specialize completly in gas.
I just think that someone with no experience should do a complete maybe a 3 year course ie. apprenticeship.
Short courses are not good for our trade including plumbing !
