A few days ago the Bosch engineer came to house to check the built-in frost protection in my boiler, he said the built-in frost protection is only for boiler; I also should have installed a pipe frost protection or pipe thermostat, as the issue on the day was about built-in frost protection, now I remember he mentioned about the pipe should be protected in case being frozen.

Do I need to get someone to install the pipe thermostat? Or it is called pipe Frost Protection like the built-in one?

How does the pipe thermostat work? Does it need to wire to the boiler or the heating control wiring junction box for which the boiler is and other heating controls are also wired to?

Many thanks for any advice!

Normally, on oil boilers, if its built in its combined frost stat/pipe stat. If it's not then a seperate frost stat set accordingly wired in series with a pipe stat on boiler return. When the pipe stat is cold it energises frost stat and kicks boiler in until return pipe stat hits its target and then de energises first stat and boiler. Must have a permanent live.
