Hello, :waving:Im in need of some help please if anyone can sugest a cure, I had a new bathroom fitted 18 months ago and every now and then the toilet bowl would be stained with dirty blackish streaks as if it had dirty water flushed down it, I thought at first it was just the residue left from the disturbance of the original pipework when the new was connected to it and it would gradually stop but it seems to have got worse, never had the problem before the new system was fitted whatever it is it is hard to remove the stain,I would appreciate any solution you could offer. many thanks in advance.

Hello Alfie,:welcome:
rather than just thinking what could clean it, I would be trying to find the problem.
Have you looked inside the cistern to see if there is something in there that could be deteriating/corroding?
as to cleaning, is bleach not working?

if its tank fed it could be the ch vents over the wrong tank which is serious as youll be washing in the same water

Welcome along Alfiesmam :)

Have a look in the toilet cistern, but it may be bacterial/mould from whatever was used to seal syphon/flush mechanism to cistern. If nothing is visible in cistern it'll be between pan and cistern.

Have you had your bathroom fitter round to have a look.
that would be my first call, because it could be many things

As a long shot, the pottery itself may be defective and have a crack or flaw in it that is allowing a build up of dirty water to form inside it and only very occasionally comes out of the rim when flushed.

I'd get the whole lot stripped out, carefully examined, and thoroughly cleaned, including taking off and re-assembling the cistern components.

where is the cistern fed from? is it mains or tank fed

Hello, the cistern is mains fed and the new suite was simply swapped into the same place as the old one was taken out of, we had no problem wiithth the last toilet. only difference is we now have a shower instead of a bath and the cistern is now integrated unit.
the stains in the toilet do clean off with bleach but are quite hard to remove and do tend to leave a shadow stain behind.

Did somebody use something abrasive to clean the porcelain in the past perhaps?

nothing abrasive used only liquid bleach or toilet bacteria spray and toilet brush which is what I have always used.

Could well be a cheap dounght washer breaking down and leaving the black streakes

Oh that sounds an interesting possibility as the water in the toilet doesnt look dirty just the streaks down the bowl, so where would I find this please ?

Oh right thank you I will get hubby to look tomorrow (as the match is on I dont see him doing it tonight ha ha ) will let you know if your right. thank you
