Hello

I have 2 toilets in my property which are attached to the same wall. When I flush toilet #1 the waste trickles into toilet #2. I say trickle as waste doesn't appear immediately but about 10 minutes after I flush, the water in toilet #2 has discoloured. This doesn't happen if toilet #2 is flushed.

Any guesses on what the problem would be?

Thanks

Without seeing the soil pipe run(s) my first guess would be a blockage after the point where the soil pipes meet the main stack.
But could be bad pipework allowing the waste from one WC to travel along the waste of the other.
Without seeing it it's difficult to say.

Hi 37

Maybe you could post a picture(s) of the installation. I have had some very tricky problems to do with stuff like this and its not always obvious!

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

Don't think pictures will help as all the pipework is behind tiling. The problem has existed since I moved in a few months back so not too sure how far back it goes back. Feel a bit cheated by the previous owners as it looks like it could be a a pretty big job to correct!

I think that iiplumbing means a picture of the two toilets in context and not the pipewrok. It sometimes helps to 'See' the situation before offering advice that might not help, and could be a waste of your time investigating it.
Are the toilets back to back on the same wall or in line for instance? Which of the two toilets is nearest to the soil stack? How far apart are they?
A pictures says a thousand words .....

Would GUESS when they moved out they cleared the toilet of all their items. Something has been dropped down either W.C. and ended up in the stack pipe.
Best have it plunged to see if this will force up any blockage, could be as simple as a box of cotton buds, if you're lucky. However, I bet my favourite finger the blockage is in the stack.Dyno rod will do the job, or someone similar.Have it rodded.
