Question for more 'mature' members!! When did town gas become less common/obsolete.

Was at a bank of 3 boilers today, Hamworthy NGR R300, on the data badge was the marking ' this unit to be used with towns gas only'. Boilers had been converted but data badge never updated, phoned Hamworthy who talkedme through injector sizes, burner pressures etc. Just wondring how old these boilers could be? Older than me? (41)

I seem to remember gas change over when I was a kid, I'm 62 so got to be 45-50 years ago.

Thank god for that, I thought I had been celebrating the wrong birthdays.lol

I think maybe as early as the late sixties 68/9 I was still at school and have memories of a North Thames Gas engineer changing the jets on me old Mums cooker regards Turnpin

I have heard shocking stories of what went on during "Conversion times"

Gas fitters were moved around the country a lot living in digs, taking baths in customers houses and extra's !!!

I used to meet a few customers who used to work for the gas during conversion, they all have a smile on their face when they talk about it !
