Training Course Advice

Hi there, new to this site but I am looking for some advice. I am 42 and in full time employment but I have been for for the last 2 years considering becoming a plumber. I have done a bit of research on the matter and spoken to a few mates that are plumbers and they think I should go for it. I know what qualifications I need but due to working full time I would need to gain the qualifications around my job. I have looked at various websites but would like to know your thoughts on training companies offering this service and could you recommend any. I like in Suffolk but would travel if needed.

hi 33ching, i am in similar circumstances to yourself, im 44 and work full time,,i did a lot of research before signing up to T4TS last december,cant really find any faults with them yet,if your struggling they answer web mail really quickly,or you can phone the tutors, have completed all of part 1 (12 modules), just received part 2 in the post and soon going for practical training at college,if you think you have the time to study and keep at it im sure youll be glad you went for it, i am...its not cheap,but you pay monthly via barclays bank (standing order) they dont charge any different for paying up front or monthly as they get their dosh straight away from barclays, hope this helps

i have signed up with a company called Tradequalified. They have centres in Leeds and Southampton. I started with them at the end of February but did not really get into my books until the begining on March. I have completed my first lot of home study and have my 1st week booked at the centre for the begining of Sept. I tried to get it earlier but due to work commitment and holidays September was the earliest. I am going to Southampton for the week so I am looking forward to getting some practical work done. I am also working with a couple of local plumbers on my rest days to try and get some experience.
What qualifications are you getting with your training ?

hello again, i am doing C&G 6129 part 2,,,,which is c&g 6022 (copper pipework),c&g 6032-2 {sanitary),C&G 6084(energy efficiency),bpec water regs and fittings, part p (electrical)..
on completion of the above i am to do a portfolio to get level 2 6089 mes plumbing (domestic) they will assist when it comes to that,
Can carry on and do level 3.but thats another 10 home study modules and five weeks at college and of course more dosh,,

Only consider doing the City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 course as this is base course for any new plumber to learn the ropes. Ideally you should be aiming toawrds City & Guilds 6129 Level 3 Tech cert with the full gas training. Also make sure you get at least 8 weeks of pure workshop time as a minimum for the 6129 Level 2 course as you will need as much practice as possible. i did my Training at the Plumbing Academy in Kent Great place and now have a good plumbing buisiness here in the south.
