Hi , First of all hello all.

I have been working in and around plumbing for the last 10 years installing bathrooms and kitchens , and for the last year working with a great teacher installing full central heating systems, both system and combi's. I am both very confident and very capable.

I recently started college on a 2 year Tech Cert L2 6129 in plumbing after which i would have to complete my NVQ 2 before getting my Gas ( MY end goal ) But reading through some threads i now realise after paying my £1200 course fees for the year, that the tech cert is not necessary.

So therefore, i would only need my NVQ2 before gaining my gas. Am I right on this??

Does anyone know of a good repitable centre in South east London ( Im from greenwich) where i could just do my NVQ2??

Really hope someone can help as im really getting confused and would if possible shorten the long and drawn out process im currently on . Spent the last 6 weeks at college learning how to climb and ladder and how to pick up a toilet properly :) :)

Yes you are correct - you can apply through the college who will sort it out and send an nvq accessor to your workplace - you will be given a file and you will have to take pictures of your work - It could be done in as quick as 6 months!! then you can do advanced plumbing and gas

yes you are correct but you will still have to do all the 6129 exams and gola and some of the assesments i.e all the lead and steal work. this has to be completed at a collage of some type. the thing is that the 6129(VRQ) and 6089(NVQ) go together at level 2 and 3. but a employer will only want the NVQ

Thanks for the replies.

Though the last reply was a bit conflicting.

Do i have to have my tech cert elements to gain nvq2 or because i have been in the trade for 10 years i can just get my NVQ2

Out of interest, does anyone know of good fast track centre in the south east area???

Thanks again for all your help

"Spent the last 6 weeks at college learning how to climb and ladder and how to pick up a toilet properly"

LOL

I wondered why I didn't learn much on the course. We learned how to climb toilets and how to pick up ladders properly. Amazing what mayhem you can cause when carrying a ladder and someone shouts for you to turn round ...

Sorry if it sounded a bit all over. You can do just the nvq because of your time in the trade but to complete the nvq you need some elements of the 6129. These are the exams. And the steal/ lead assesments. Hope this makes some sence
