hi all just wanted some info regarding my mother in laws property.

basically in our area transco are renewing all the underground gas mains, today she has been told the her meter will have to be moved from the garage because its illegal to be there because its an enclosed space( the garage was built next to the house 20 years ago), now the transco blokes are saying the meter will have to be moved to the inside of the porch( enclosed space:confused:) and they are going to dig half the front of her door out to this???

im not clued up on this so answers on a post card please

absolutely not, just trying to make their life easier.
i bet the porch is closer to the new main than the garage.

thats exactly what i thought but dont want to go saying stuff that i wasnt sure on,

can she just turn them down blank and say she doesnt want them doing it like that??

sorry miqo forget to add, the porch is in a straight line to the gas mains, where as it is now it must have a bend in somewhere.

If there paying for it let them do it, it would also be easier in an emergancy if the gas was in the porch, dont ya think? Make clear to them that if theyre moving it they also get someone in to connect it to the currect gas supply in the house and that THEY cover the cost of this. if not, turn them down.

only problem i can see is if the garage is detached they might argue that its not necessarily accessable from the house this could happen that the garage was let out by future tennants
if the porch isnt suitable can it not go out side in either a wall box or ground level box im sure you could insist on one of these

hi all, the the garage is accessed directly through a door from the house, what theyve also said is they cant(not alowed) to dig inside the garage, wich is concrete.

what are cant understand is tho, they are litterally moving is to the other side of the wall, no more than 400mm and her porch is quite small and if they do put it there they have told her that they will not be boxing it in as thats nothing to do with them.

and after that they going to dig outside her porch:confused:

just seems very stupid to me

or am i missing something, apart from there making there life easier.
