While working in the loft today I became aware of the sound of trickling water. On examination it was found to be coming from the central heating expansion tank. It appeared to be topping up the system and has now stopped. Is this normal or a cause for concern please?:confused5:

once the system is full the ball valve will shut and the tank will stay full it tops its self up now and again due to expansion but if it prsists you could have a leak some where

It probably needs a new ball valve.

It also might be a small leak somewhere, when it drops the water level in the tank it will then replenish to the set level and start over again.

Thanks guys for your advice. It seems to have stopped, so I presume the system is fully topped up. I'll keep an eye on it!
