Mr Wilson

so whats the deal with this. im rather unfamiliar with central heating systems coming from australia. but read on a forum here that theres a general dislike for trvs on a heated towel rack. why is this is it just cause its redundant or simply unnecessary and a lockshield will suffice ... in saying this are 2 lockshields installed on the towel rack or only 1.

Hello Mr Wilson,

As an Australian plumber who does hydronic heating, I never put any sort of control valve on towel rails.

I always put 2 lockshield valves on them.

The reason - set and forget, and it acts as a by-pass for the system when TRV's close down and also allows descent flow for the pump run on after boiler has shut down.

Never had any complaints because people like dry, warm towels.

cheers mate . explained great

you must be from down south.. brisvegas myself

also it stops the heat from the bathroom switching off the trv

It's really dependent on your towel rail and requirements. Some rails are simply just to warm/dry towels and are on a different circuit to the rads, others are on the same circuit and heat the room as well as the towels. Some customers like to control all rooms with TRV's (think EvoHome) others don't.
