Hi guys,i have been lurking on the site for a while but this is my first post.
I recently had a conversation with a british friend of mine who has a home in rural france where i fitted a central heating system a number of years ago.The original Ferroli Modena boiler always played up on dhw and so eventually he replaced it with a new Vaillant combi boiler, when i asked him which model of condensing boiler he chose, he said it was not condensing but a conventional combi without (as far as i can tell) any energy efficiency controls, earth bonding etc.and added that you can fit what you like in france ----so much for europe-wide laws.

By the way he still has problems with dhw

You people are just like the Brits in France, like to believe what you have been told, by a man in the pub/street/on the ferry, read the DTU 65 and you will see that the French have just as strict rules for plumbing/heating as the UK, earth cross bonding is a bit different, and I believe from memory now, that the earth bonding to the boiler should be 6mm

Ask your friend if the person who fitted the boiler was registered (SIRET number, and did they hold the all important decennial assurance), because if not held the works "black" and this is another can of worms, because the person who employs the person to fit the boiler, is then liable in law for any accidents, mistakes, etc, and this could lead to a 35000€ fine and or 5 years inside

The French attitude is a bit like, you can do anything inside your house, but don't come running if there is an accident, and try and claim on the assurance, because if it does not conform to the Norms tough luck you are on your own, and also we the French State might prosecute, if there has been a risk to or loss of life

Link below for the Documents Techniques Unifiés, like the BSS in the UK

Travaux.com : DTU (Documents Techniques Unifiés) – Marchés de travaux de bâtiment

So please before you slag of the French get your facts right, I have worked on both sides of the channel, and living in France think that I can speak better than a visitor to France

I do hope that the moderators will not mind me plugging, the forum I helped to start and now moderate on

I any one wants answers about France and the building regulations, etc, and living in France, direct from the horses mouth so to speak, this is the forum I would recommend for anyone to just browse through

a friend of mmine has a butchers shop and he had to lay out a lot of money to bring his shop up to eu standards one of which was there can be no wood in the shop even wooden handled knives had to go
soon after we went on a day trip to a market in france where they were selling meat of off a wooden trestle stall using wood handled knives . he wasnt happy

Whilst not defending France, there is good and bad on both sides, an explanation

This is only because the UK gold plated the regulations, look at all the little slaughter houses that were forced out of business, because the UK interpreted the regulation to mean that all the walls and floor had to be tiled, where the regulation read impervious surfaces which could mean cement render
Did you know that EU ruling for beef, states that the meat should be traceable right from the time it was born, at what farm, which slaughter house killed it, right up to the customer, (the French do this, not the UK), any food product that comes in from an outside country, can be labelled EU if it has been transformed in any way
How do I know this? my brother is a butcher in West London, and I have worked in a French slaughter house, and scene the computer print outs that go with each portion of meat
With regards to the UK and the shop my brother works in, chickens from Spain, labelled up as "fresh Norfolk Chicken, then if not sold the first week, portioned up and offered for sale as chicken quarters, then again if not sold, diced up for sale as chicken pieces, finally doused in spice and sold as chicken Tika Marsala, beef steaks come from Scotland about 20lbs of meat in a box, with only the packers name on the box

One of the reasons I am a staunch defender of the EU, is twice in the last century Germany tried to dominate Europe, first half was in 1914-18, the second half 1939 -1945, and having scene first hand the results of the second half, I for one do not want to see the extra time result, for the last 60 odd years its been relatively quite thanks to the EU

Please read up on nuclear weapons, the marshall aid programme etc, also a reading of history would help. Seriously EU, that is nothing more than an ideological dream, one that carries lasting damage for "Europe". I loathe whats happening in England (and the west in general), but its my home and has done more for civilisation than either France or the E.U. Anyway this is a plumbing forum, au revoir.

ofther eu countries ignore eu legislation as they like ,it is only gb over zealos civil servants who impose them strickly on us
