Does anybody know if there are companies/individuals offering services to help on a part installed UFH installation in the Brighton area? I suspect many people want to only offer the whole service?

I have just laid down a new concrete slab, with 75mm celotex insulation. I'm about to lay 2 loops of 15mm John Guest 100m pipe coils down - when it occurred to me that there maybe someone out there able to supervise my first installation...

I think I've got all bases covered, but would be happier to pay someone to sanity check/help with what I'm about to do - before the screed is applied

Cheers

I'm not sure that standard John Guest Speed fit tube is suitable for underfloor heating, I thought that it required special barrier layers, like the Hepworth underfloor stuff, as said not sure, but worth double checking.

Thanks for reply. John Guest do their own UFH range, and the barrier pipe is apparently fine. The standard pipe has a barrier, and the 100m pipe coils are specially made lengths to run one loop without the need for couplers in the screed.

whenever ive done underfloor heating, ive always wet tested.

purge the system of aire, fill with water. connect your wet tester to manifold, pressurize to 10 bar, this expands all pipework into the fitting especially the grab ring.
leave it pressurized while its screeded, it helps make the pipe stronger while you drop stuff on it!! keep an eye on the pressure make sure there are no drops, and bobs your uncle..

tho like htb says if its not the right pipe your asking for future probs.

on the bright side, have a little faith in yourself, youll be laughing at this thread 3 jobs down the line

good luck

Cheers. I'm fairly positive on the pipe. Not so sure on the choice of screed - sand/cement versus some posh stuff. Was going to purge & pressurize to 4 bar before & during. Was going to make sure screeder tamped down screed to make sure no air voids. Only other thing I can think of it to make sure the pipe spacing is appropriate for the room...and avoid runs under fixed fittings such as kitchen units.

it will all crack the day after you switch the heating on anyway!! the posh stuff has fibres in it to help everything stay together.

Thanks for reply. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid :)

The 'posh' stuff I believe can be something as simple as sand/cement screed with 20mm(?) polypropylene fibres added to the mix. Although I know you can get more specialized screeds although I suspect this isn't easy to get hold off via local companies.

if your worried about the finish look, then you best contact your local screed suppliers and ask them for advice.
im no builder buy any means, and there may well be something more elastic that i dont know about, but by the shear nature of a solid floor laid on moving pipes somethings gonna give.

ive always (only done a dozen of these) let them crack, give them a week, then just lightly fill in the surface of the crack.

meant to add, better the screed gives, rather than the pipes!!
