Underfloor heating

Can I ask for advice, would it be ok to install underfloor heating as an additional zone on an existing s-plan circuit. The plan would be to have the thermostat for the room with the underfloor heating, operating the new zone valve, and at the same time switching the underfloor pump. Would it be acceptable for the room stat to be switching both the zone valve and pump to turn on and off simultaneously, without the need for an additional wiring centre? The new underfloor heating circuit would have its required manifold with blending valve but I’m wondering if my plan would work!? Many thanks in advance

Hum ........ not sure adding UFH to an existing S plan without changing or adding to the controls is going to be a good idea .....

You should be fine converting the existing system to an S Plan Plus, obviously new stat will control UFH/pump, and new zone valve will need to work into existing system to bring boiler on independently. If you are using a heating installer it should be fairly straightforward to sort, if not there is plenty of good info on the Honeywell web pages or many of the UFH manufacturers.

That will help do you have Honeywell controls at present ? As above you will need a heating engineer and a electrician competent in wiring heating and understanding the controls, relays will be needed to allow the boiler and heating zones to work independently of each other and have time and temperature control of each of them either by replacing the existing or adapting what you have . I currently have a Drayton wiser 2 zone. Was thinking of upgrading to a Drayton wiser 3 zone kit. I believe that the compensated algorithm for the switching of Drayton wiser isn’t really good for UFH as I believe it needs a simple on/off. Drayton are bringing out support for it this year so I’m led to believe there will be a change of algorithm in the software to support a zone using UFH. Let’s say I run with the 3 zone Drayton wiser kit, is it ok for the pump to run when the zone valve opens and stops when the zone valve closes? Another method I’ve seen is a thermostatically controlled pump so the pump runs when the water heats up, and stops when it cools. Would either method of controlling the pump work just as effectively? Thanks in advance.

I think it maybe best to contact Drayton for guidance on this, there is a Drayton wiser forum which may be of use also ?? Regards kop
