Unused toilet with sewer gas smells

Hello.

I have an unused toilet in my house that I need to sort out. It hasn't been used for a couple of years, and the bowl has dried up. It is emitting sewer gas smells.

Is there anything I should be aware of before I flush it to refill the trap? For example, could anything have happened to pipes and/or seals as a result of the toilet being dry?

Really if it’s unused it should be removed and the drain capped but you should be fine just filling it with water

Sewer gas can be both explosive and/or poisonous. Also, an empty trap is an invitation for rats. Letting a trap run dry is a very bad idea, check it at least monthly.
