what exactly is done in an annual service for an invented cylinder? Other than checking no leaks, immersion elements are ok etc

I have my G3 ticket. But don't be fooled, they don't teach you much on the course!!!

Strainer cleaned

Check pressure after prv

Check t and p (be warned it may leak afterwards so may require replacement)

Check install to regs

Check expansion vessel / re charge air gap

And the two you said

Cheers Shaun.. I wondered about checking the t&p valve, same as the PRV on the cold inlet.. so you just have to tell the custard that I need to check these which may result in replacement afterwards? Seems a bit odd

Need to test they open and not stuck shut, but my findings are only 10% reseal afterwards

Yeah I get the test but, I know the custard will just say it was fine before I serviced it :/

Totally agree with the above and although it's daft it's the reason 99% don't get serviced

Just price for changing it then and add to your cost before hand

Does anyone else think that the courses we have to go on are in general hugely inadequate and poorly taught?? On my commercial gas course at the moment and the tutor is basically giving us all the answers for the assessments. What's the point in having an assessment if you get told what to write?

People shouldn't be coming off a G3 course with no idea of how to service the cylinders (not a go at the OP by the way, more the system..

I don't think the courses stand for very much to be honest. I did my first course while I was still completing my level 2 technical certificate. Not really enough information.
That supposedly last for 5 years. Rubbish. When I did my NVQ3 we went into them in a big way. Installing, replacing servicing etc. the works. I am happy to say very confident now :):):D:D

It puts a very bitter taste in your mouth about doing further courses. The providers don't care, as long as they get their quota of pass rates

They are far to short and not in depth enough. No disrespect to you jaydebruyne. But I am sure you would not feel confident enough install an unvented cylinder.

After doing that course I wasn't confident to do anything with invented cylinders. This was about 2 1/2 years ago now. I know a lot more about them now but I would have preferred to do a longer course and more in depth. As far as installing them now, I think I'd be fine

Just read and follow the manufacturers instructions bud everything you need is in them installation , servicing , fault fiding this is drumed into us during training its not that difficult read em follow them and you will stay within the regulations and work safely cheers kop
