Just been to price up a full bathroom refit, customer didn't know what she wanted so talked through a few options. Measure up, job sorted last thing "can i see your airing cupboard". It's an over 55 flat complex, 7 groups of 8 flats. No gas all storage heaters, so opens airing cupboard door hoping for direct unvented cylinder, bingo, Range Tribune HE.

Hello, thats not right. Was fitted two years ago by two 'plumbers', and I use that term loosely, very loosely. 210 litre unit for single bathroom flat, 15mm hot feed at back of cupboard, speedfit 15/22 reducer into 22 speedfit st connector, 22 speedfit elbow, 22 speedfit elbow and straight onto top of cylinder. Looks pants but the jobs done. Anyway top floor flat, cold mains come into airing cupboard from above alkathene to copper connector and 15 stop tap, then pressure reducer before pipe disappears to back of cupboard, tees to kitchen and tees under floor to serve bathroom. Then we have speedfit 15/22 reducer into 22 speedfit elbow, speedfit pipe from back of cupboard with 22 speedfit tee (we'll come back to that) then into combined pressure reducing/pressure relief with flexi upto expansion vessel fastened to ceiling. Cold then drops to cold feed into cylinder (no clips anywhere or on anything). Now the balanced cold comes out in a touch of 22 copper, well just enough to get a speedfit elbow on and then runs back to tee in cold feed prior to reducing/relief unit?
Now we come to d1 pipework, all in 15mm speedfit, cold water prv runs up to tee into cylinder temp/prv pipe and then down to tundish again all in 15mm speedfit.

All this after being told that they will need copies of my public liability and G3 if I have to touch the cylinder. As everybody who works on the flats as to be qualified and insured.

Pointed out the issues and left.

Happy days.

What annoys me is that what you describe is absolutely crazy and potentially dangerous but unlike Gas as far as I am aware none of it is notifiable and if it is who are we supposed to notify because I dont know

Oh I could, just can't find the lead to plug my phone into the laptop and down load it.

It's a funny set up, the occupiers actually own the flat but there is a management company that organises and pays for repairs to the unvented cylinders storage heater etc. So the occupier has asked for a report to give to the management company so it can be sorted. Had to take a photo over the top of the cylinder to see where the d2 pipework went, runs out back and through kitchen. Didn't check where it terminated outside, will have to call back round in morning.

was in a house were they have a 10 years old uhwc ,start to corrode at the bottom , so is ID but who to point this out to !!
Customer say is still working so its ok :) did worn out verbally of potential danger but he did not want to listen

The water will want to get out of there in a hurry when it corrodes through. Nice big claim on the insurance even though they've been warned. Should be able to register things like this with a central insurance database so that when they go pop the insurance firms can stick two fingers up to the customer referring back the bad report. Might bring insurance down.

this is what i said to them no insurance cover as cylinder not have a track of service maintenance plus is dangerous to the people living there ! but there not interest .........do not understand people they spend hundreds of £ on other things but when it is about there safety they all " will be all right mate, not me will not happen to me " -Idiots
