I have been asked if I can relocate a cylinder into a roof space.

Unvented would be an easier option rather than building the cwsc up higher.

My question is will I need to do anything to strengthen the joists?

I am planning on putting it above the existing airing cupboard so the walls underneath will give a bit more strength but these are stud walls. Will these be OK to handle the additional weight?

span over 4 and cross beam and ply

following building regs as to the requirements on using roof trusses etc for carrying storage vessels.

get your books out you used to get your nvqs and city and guilds, its all in there how to build bases in clear simple pictures.

if I seem a bit arsy, its only because i went to an unvented in an attic that a so called plumber had installed, the whole lot was resting on a couple of trusses which had bent and you could see the whole ceiling bowing!!!! had to drain it all down, go back to my books and install the lot safely iaw the guidelines

Just ready to do one within the next fortnight , yes cross batton by at least 4 joists of the same size , 600 centres. Build a deck out of floorboards . Somebody ( sorry cant remember who ) posted this for me a while ago, the info came from the trussed rafter association ( or something like that )

my cyl had a nice tilt when i arrived :) and to keep croppie happy, i didnt go into the attic long as I assumed my dainty toes may cause us both to appear in the bedroom below :( tis amazing how quick you can jam a prv open).

You mean the books that I had 14-15 years ago when I passed my nvqs?

Sadly they are long gone and if I still had them they would be massively out of date.

I have had a look through the few books that I have and none of them say anything about strengthening the ceiling which is why I am asking here.

I appreciate I need to increase my library and I will do that in due course and if you have any recommendations on which books would be helpful for future use that would be great. And I will get them ordered in.

But my problem is at the moment I have nothing to reference to to find out so if you could direct me to a document/ website or anything so that I can find out I would appreciate it.

depends on the roof construction but if its trusses and your removing a 50 gallon tank weight is about the same for a 200 litre cylinder

I did try googling it but didn't get anything like that.

Much appreciated.

I am sure it was Tamz but might be wrong.

PS please run the safety valve waste down to LL not to a drain like so many I see. The client will never know it is running otherwise.

The relief I was going to run down the outside of the house to low level and try and tuck it behind the guttering until it reaches floor level.
