Hi everyone,
Before everyone asks the usual questions, I do have my unvented ticket, but besides a few installs I haven't used it much so I'm a bit rusty, normally I just go out with the guy I'm doing gas hours with but he's away and this customer is just around the corner and I want to make sure I give him good advice. Went to the customers house last night, it's a new build (3 years old) and has a range tribune unvented cylinder. The customer had a different plumber out to fix a leek on the cylinder from the pipe leading to the temp rel valve (d1 if I remember correctly). The other plumber seems to have thought the best solution to this was to just throw silicone everywhere!!!! In fact this did stop the leak, but all the other fittings have started leaking instead. It's coming from the cold feed into the cylinder and from around the immersion heater. I had a good look and to me the cold feed seems to be leaking from the cylinder itself. The connection to pipe work seems ok but the moisture is actually around where the pipe passes the insulation. Also I noticed his expansion vessel had lost pressure (the heating one), I suspect that's just a diaphragm, but I'm worried maybe there is a manufacturing fault on the cylinder? That would explain the leaks, but could the coil be split and the waters mixing? He's not noticed any problem with the water but the fact the expansion vessel has lost charge, there are no other leaks anywhere, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Anyone advice would be much appreciated.
