hi hoping somebody can help me asap ?? me mates getting a new cooker and kitchen fitted by his friend he is moving thing about the worry is he is moving the cooker under the central heating boiler ? its an eye level grill type so there is only about 7-8cm gap between the cooker and boiler ???
i dont think this is right but my friend says he has spoken to the gas and they said it fine ??
can you advise me as to the law on this asap as the guy is doing it tomorrow !!! thanks in advance tb:)

A freestanding gas cooker with eye level grill requires a minimum of 610mm gap above appliance.

 thought 600mm ? i will have to report it tomorrow they wont listen ??

That 610mm gap is from a combustible surface. So with a boiler above that it will no doubt have electrics and plastic parts that could melt a 7 to 8cm gap would be a no no, unless a fire resistant surface is provided. I would suggest the cooker under boiler is a no go. Please check manufacturers instructions and advice from a Gas Safe Registered operative before installation.

yeh, then wait untill he starts to fit it then call in the squad cos i bet he aint registered, dumb twot.

if he is daft enougth not to realise that heat rises and it will fry his boiler with that small a gap let him get on with it.as for all this creeping round reporting your mates what are you in gestapo, bopo,go round and stand there with fire extingisher so you can take the p!!!s

:D i dont think its a case off creepin round reporting him ? i dont know the lad fitting the cooker anyway .... 1000s people lives are put at risk every year by idiots that arent qualified fitting gas boilers, fires etc !! i have spoken to guy that was doing it he has take the problem on board and has now moved the cooker next to the boiler no harm done !! i wasnt bothered if my mate blew up thats his look out i was thinking off the girl next door with 3 kids :p
thanks for the advise off the people that know what they are talking about :D

know what your talking about ,most of those taken to court over unsafe gas instalations are qualified, powers to be say this is because they cant catch the unqualified they dont have enougth grasses,if you were so worried you should have cornerd your mate and told him! not dob him in
