Urgent leak bath/shower mixer taps

Urgent, please help.

Hi

Can someone please help me urgently before the same plumber comes now for the 3rd time. He is total waste of space.

The leak was under the nut of the hot water trade bath/shower mixer taps. The plumber tighten the the nut and it still leaked.

Then he came again and changed it to a flexiable pipe for the hot water bath/shower mixer taps. Still leaking.

He said that it might be big rubber washer that is under the bath/shower mixer taps that needs changing and the whole bath/shower mixer taps might need changing as you cannot get the washer on its own.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you stop the leak.

This is driving me crazy, i wish i was a plumber myself.

the leak is sweeping through the floor boards and going to the downstairs toilet, with the walls now moldy.

Is this guy a plumber? if he can't get a seal with a flexi hose (if its tight)? then I don't know what to say unless the leak is from above and leaking though the loose fitting plastic backnut.

He was on rated people, total waste of space. he had good revies, but i think his mates must of rated him.

He says it might be the 3/4 inch rubber seal under the mixer taps. The leak is only underneath the hot water bath/shower mixer. I cant even figure out, he is a plumber he should know.

Hi Ali
If the plumber keeps coming back for free then he is clearly losing money.

It shouldn't be a difficult job as long as the bath panel is removable.
And btw, the big rubber washer can be made from a piece of thin gasket rubber.

Perhaps time for a more experienced plumber to visit!

Ali137 you may wish you were a plumber yourself but one thing for sure the person you have got coming around for the third time is no one either !!!! get some one else in.
Are you sure it is the tap connection ?? can you dry the area out with tissue paper & then check it after a while to see is pipes, connection, flexible are not wet. Do not use the bath until checked.

He is coming out for free, as he has not solved the problem, that's what i paid him for.

baths panel has come off.

I might just buy a new bath shower mixer tap and tell him to fix it.

Do you mean the hot water isolator? What kind of bath taps are these, mixertap?

Is access a nightmare? Has he got a basin pedestal right in his way to contend with?

Edit: sorry yes mixertaps. Are they on the back wall with zero access?

If nothing coming down the tap (threaded) stems then joint between flexible & tap has not been made correctly, it is often awkward to get to under the bath but thats why we get paid loads of money, NOT, to have the right tools & know how.
Get a new set of taps if you wish but get a plumber. You must be able to ask people in your area is they can recommend one of post a request here on the forum.

Ali, whereabouts are you? Granted this guys returning for free but I would have serious doubts over his competences if he can't complete a simple job like this, irregardless of access.

If it only leaks when the tap is turned on, the leak must be in the tap itself, not under the bath shell, maybe the water is finding its way down.

It sounds like it is the connection to the tap that is leaking. If it was the washer between the body of the mixer and the bath then it would only leak when there was water lying or ingressing around the area where the tap joins the bath. It could be a split thread on the mixer in which case the mixer would need renewed. I would suggest leaving hot water turned off (if you can) to minimise damage to property until problem rectified.
First thing I would check would be the connection to the hot tap by removing flexi hose connection and inspecting the washer for dirt or damage.
Pour a glass of water around tap body and look below to see if any leakage coming through.
Good luck it should be simple to identify and rectify.

Ok the plumber came today, i had to get a new bath/shower mixer tap (£50 Doh!!!!) he put it in today, i will have to wait and see if it leaks under the tap tomorrow.

I poured water over the taps and it has not leaked under the tap nut. He put another flexihose. He put clear sealant which was weird (never seen this, he said it looks nice, i dont know if i should trust him)

The thing is he is from ratedpeople website and had good rating. He charged me £100 on the first day and just tightened the nut and said it is fixed just wait till tomorrow. He tried to pull the fast one on me, without changing anything and charging me £100 for 15 mins work on the 1st day. It goes to show, if you try to scam people it bites back on you, and this is the 3rd time he has come (he lost a lot of money on labour charge.)

He wanted more money to fit the new tap but i was having none of that as he should have done this from day one and should have told me i will need new taps.

I will post tommorow.
