I've put the tap down low, it's still lukewarm, i've turned the temp of the water up and down and still it remains luke warm, I press the I button and it gives me the S.1.4 which supposedly tells me the hot water system is working, but it's not.

The display shows the water being called up and the temp on the display rises but the hot water is still lukewarm, not sure how that works.

Any ideas?

as you have reported the post i will make it simple for you,your not a gas engineer,the large,difficult to miss orange banner at the top of this page specifically states that unless you are qualified do not ask for gas advice,that is why everyone is telling you to call a engineer which bit of this advice are you finding difficult to grasp?
 
What I'm trying to do is ascertain the fault, not fix it, Where have I said that I would? I'm aware of the criteria for not meddling with your own boiler without being qualified, it's pretty clearly made to you when you sign up also.

The central heating forum is open to all inclusive of members of the public and presumably most are non qualified engineers so wont meddle.

The purpose of the post was to see if any advice could be sourced on what may be a common fault, or something I could do (as non qualified) to check the function of the boiler. It would also help me when booking an engineer as to what the fault maybe and if/when the appear and go on to diagnose the issue that it's consistent with information sourced here/elsewhere. Worst case scenario is I'm told by the engineer that it's fault A and will cost in excess of £££ where really the fault is fault b and one which may have been highlighted here ....but the engineer thought not to tell me.

Surely, if you don't want members of the public asking questions about their boiler then make the forum closed to engineers only? failing that, constructive replies may help, ridiculous ones or where you're told by an alleged trusted member to replace/repair cos it's 'poo' is about as dull as dishwater and about as helpful as a chocolate fireguard in a heatwave.

right first the basics how long has this problem been present?
 
About a week, there is a Mira Platinum shower fitted, this has been running cold for a week or so, thought it might be something to do with the outside water being colder etc, used a different shower (elecgtric powershowr) however, the water in the taps has been less than pretty for the last 2 o 3 days, lukewarm for the vast majority of the time.

as a simple test,to make sure a shower or mixer tap has not failed and you have cold mixing with the hot,can you isolate the hot to the boiler? if so open a hot tap,if it comes to a stop quite soon,then nothing is mixing,if it continues to run a mixer or shower has failed,if the test shows nothing coming out of the hot tap short of ensuring the hot water thermostat is on max there is nothing practically more you can do short of calling in a gas safe engineer
 
The Mira platinum is the furthest point from the boiler, the closest and first in line tap to the boiler is in a small downstairs toilet, I can run that at full pressure or even reduced pressure, it continues to run, it doesn't stop. If i reduce the pressure the water will reach lukewarm, if i increase it itgoes almost cold. I should add that I have the temp on the boiler set at 56 for the water, I have put it up to max (65) but it makes no difference.

What I will say is that although the tem is lukewarm, there is a variance in the warmth, sometimes it's almost approaching mildly hot,, others it's as cold as the cold. I have a magnaclean on the system, this was cleaned a month ago, there was very little debris (just thinking re the heater exchange being furred up)

Boiler was annually serviced 1 month ago.
 
Well sorry to say I have been in the building trade for over 30 years and out of the hundreds of so called tradesmen I have met there are probably fewer than 10 I would trust so for Joe public it really must be a nightmare !

its really coming back to a internal boiler fault
 
What I am curious on is the Boiler reports the ho****er as function as it should, the S.1.4 is there when I press the relevant button the boiler and yet it's clear it isn't working.

Is there an diagnostic I can run on the boiler that resets it to factory standard?
 
Hi Jogon,have you turned off the cold isolation valve to the boiler like Gasman told you to do,then check the hot taps ,your reply sounds to me anyway that you only reduced the pressure at the tap,which is'nt what he was suggesting you did. If I'm wrong sorry for butting in

And I am sorry to say that Joe public can and does lie a lot and say "tell me what's wrong, am not going to fix it myself, honest"
