Hello everyone,

Would any of you be able to help me? I'm a bit desperate!

A couple of years ago we had a Vaillant Ecotech Plus 831 combi boiler installed. We also have a Vaillant VRT 392f room thermostat to control it.

We don't use a timer - we just use the thermostat to turn the heating on and off as needed.

This morning we tried to turn the temperature down but the thermostat wouldn't obey our commands in the usual fashion. It showed two dashes ("--") and the temperature on the display, but we just couldn't get the temperature to go down.

We had a look at the instructions (Google vaillant vrt 392f - the instructions are the second result down). This section looked relevant:

"When the dial is turned the values to be displayed must first be called up by the radio receiver unit. Until these values are obtained only dashes instead of values will be displayed (--). This generally takes up to two seconds. Depending on the ambient conditions, it may take up to 15 minutes until the current data are called up by the radio receiver unit and are subsequently displayed. If dashes (--) are displayed continuously, consult your expert technician. "

So this suggested we weren't getting any signals through the radio receiver unit.

I looked the issue up on Google and found an old thread in this forum (titled 'Vaillant Wireless Problem (VRT 392f)). This person had similar problems. One solution given was to replace the thermostat batteries - we have tried that today to no effect. Should we try and restore the factory settings? (not sure what effect that will have though).

We have tried to get in touch with our installer but he's unavailable at the moment.

Can anyone help? Thanks!
