chassy

Our Valliant ecoMax condensing boiler has started to make a whining fog horn type noise each time it kicks in (i.e. calls for gas for CH). Noise seems to be coming from around the internal pump area. It lasts about 30 econds then stops - like it's clearing its throat for the next heating spurt. Boiler is in garage but noise can be heard throughout the house. Its a good early morning alarm call. What is the most likely cause? Having it serviced shortly so would be useful to have some idea what is causing this??

possibly pump or fan noisey on startup

i recently had a call to exactly the same boiler with an identical fault and it turned out to be the fan!

I would describe the sound as a drone or loaud humming that goes high then low then high etc.. for about 30 seconds on Boiler start-up and each subsequent call for gas. Is problem easy to diagnose? Does Pump setting matter? If Fan is it easy to replace?

Sometime the bearing on the fans get worn and the drum moves out of alignment causing it to make a noise. Can't remember what the tolerances are for free play.

There is dodge for getting a bit longer out of a fan that can be used, that was put on the forum some time ago but I have forgotten what it is

Please remember you should be a competent person to remove sealed gas boiler casing as its classed as breaking the gas train.
