I rarely fit a heat only, 70% combis 30% systems

Are the Vaillant heat only very temperamental/sensative to air and older systems?
I will fit a new pump but the 3 port is quite new.
A plumber mate has said I would have to fit a bypass even though its y plan.
Im a bit confused by the output as they seem to be able to give a far higher output on 'Hot water' which would probably leave my gas pipe undersized even though it will only ever be in that mode when commissioning and servicing.

Do you know the deal with the outputs?
A 15kw will give 18kw on HW mode
A 18kw will give 24kw on HW mode
I am planning to fit an 18kw but the gas pipe will be undersized if it’s trying to chew through 24kw when commissioning

That will be if you are using Vaillant controls I would think.
As above, ring Vaillant tech, they are normally very helpful. Better still for a question like that, ring the rep.

I phoned my rep.
He said the extra kw for hot water only applies with vaillant controls.
If vaillant controls aren’t not used it should be treated as it’s badged kw and should be serviced and commissioned one chimney sweep mode instead of P1 (Max)

It sounds like a handy feature but I find vaillant control too complicated to understand and explain to customers so rarely use them other than the odd Vsmart on a combi

Gone off the heat only Vaillant's. Had a couple of the rear flues leak on the blanking seal when using the top flue and had a couple of the Aluminium HEXs go on the Pure's (Which all the Heat Only's use). Sticking to the Pro's and the Plus's but you'd have to stick a System Plus in to get the round Stainless steel burner.

What heat onlys do you fit?

I haven't done any for a good 18+ month, as I usually just convert to a system boiler now. Saves hassle and a better job down the line.

But yeah it is a bit of an issue with the heat onlys, don't like the new Baxi's OV, not keen on Worcester (But the Ri isn't a bad boiler really), Vaillant as above. I'd probably be tempted with the Viessman 100-W open vent. Round stainless steel burner and quite solid built.

My own house i'm running an Glow Worm Ultimate on a sealed system with robo kit and tbh don't know what the hell i'll replace it with 🤣

I/we don’t really fit them. In my house (was a new build 2009) is a potterton suprima HE - whoever fitted it pushed the seal out of the turret and it condensated inside 😡, which was only picked up on the annual service (I didn’t have sufficient knowledge at the time) by me - basically the service engineer said it was fine, I read the printout of approx 450ppm CO!

Anyway I digress, I’ve had to fit a new fan at approx 7 years, GV makes a clunking noise, which I’m led to believe is the solenoid? One of the insulation pads has cracked as well.

We fit Intergas eco RF30’s which are a few boilers in one (heat only is available via display parameters), which seem ok boilers.

How’s the backup for technical and warranty?
I have never seen an intergas in my area

Intergas are a bit hit and miss backup wise Scott if you have a good area rep then they are good as any of the big boys, but they often move on then there's a big gap and warranty issues take longer to sort out never had any serious issues I have to say . Kop

That’s why I gave up on ATAG
2 good reps then they left and there is nobody. I can’t even log into the portal to get spares or price up a boiler for a quote now.

Yeah, everyone seemed to be fitting them and now they’ve dropped off a cliff. Was never a fan myself. According to the Worcester rep sounds like they were flogging them too cheap.

I've got one fitted in my house a bud economiser 27 it's had a few issues over the last few years but always had good back up on parts, recently they have sent me a diverter head and cartridge upgrade when mine failed get them to upgrade your details on their portal worked for me . Regards kop

Why I don’t fit Vaillant heat onlys or EcoFit pures anymore, forgot I’d fitted this Heat only 12 month ago, first service yesterday and leaking rear flue manifold.

Unfortunately had no option, new build with a Ideal Logic with failed hex, tight cupboard and sealed system. Otherwise would have put a Plus system boiler in 🤷🏻‍♂️

Warranty call?

Warranty call?
Yeah. Specifically called the rep and asked them to do it in one hit as they usually go out and then have to go back because it's a 'two' man job, boiler off wall etc. Rep ordered wrong part, and even if it was right they'd booked it down as a 1 hour repair anyway 😤 So usual thing, they're going back next week.

Honestly, having a bit of a nightmare with Vaillant at minute.
