I am trying to organise my van ( vw transporter ) I currently have a row of seats behind the front seats, so I am looking to make some racking for accesing via the back tailgate. I have some ideas but was wondering if any of you guys have got some thoughts or ideas that I could borrow ( i mean steal :D ) Cheers in advance.:)

got an uncle, a sparky, he built a 2x2 box frame down both sides of van and put in plastic storage boxs, they hang onto the 2x2 with their lips of the boxs. he can then strip the whole lot out within 10 min's.

shelving with boxes is always best dexion best to make frames but timber is cheaper you could also try ebay for propriatry racking lots of dealers sell what comes out of bt and gasboard vans
make sure its strong enogh to keep the passengers safe in the back seats remembeer to keep heavy items drills tools etc low and light stuff plastic pancons etc high

ford transit connect van racking - storage - shelving on eBay (end time 08-Jan-10 19:10:16 GMT)
loads of others on there as well i racked mine this way with some timber as well

Thanks for the replies guys, done a quick google and my god some of the prices are just  !! gonna keep my eye on the ol ebay, mind even dig out the trusty jigsaw and have a bash myself. Thanks again :)

Green Tesco crates! Brilliant!

Be careful with lin-bins on racks - go too fast over a pothole and you'll spend all evening sorting the 15mm from the 22mm, the tees from the elbows etc etc!

How funny you say that, walking to the local shop this morning I saw a Tesco van doing a delivery doors open and I thought, that looks good !! But now you mention it and with the potholes around Bedfordshire perhaps not such a good move lol :)

on one side ive got them storage boxes you can get from screwfix they pull out and have a retaining bar and you can stack them up in sections.

on the other side ive got a cheapy metal shelving secured to the side with brackets and i use the large blue storage boxes, i also put wood around the shelving to stop the boxes sliding off

linn bins are ok but best if fixed
always mont the panel so it leans back at the top
use three quarter inch self drilling screw thru back of bin in to panel
drill small holes thro each side and cable tie the front edges together
means they cant be taken of for rumaging but does keep them in place and contents in

hers a good cheap idea for all those plastics bends wastes etc, stack n bolt a few together.

Here’s a picture of the racking system I use in my van, It’s a medieval original, I use it for torturing bad paying customers to make them part with their money, just slides in and out of the van easily, picked it up at one of William the Conquerors cousins garage sales, only wanted to pay £50.00 but she made me stretched to £65.00:eek:

My boss has a VW TRansporter and got is racking off of ebay. If you search ply racking it should come up (that is there username) I think they are doing a clearence - 800mm x 800mm racking is 45 quid. Hope i'm not to ate to your post

Nearly finished racking my new van out when I have finishe will put a picture up :D.

I just love my new van though feels like a car all the space, the air con, cd player leccy windows and mirrors such bliss :D

I have a load of old cattle lick tubs I scrounged from a farm I did some work for. They are huge strong things about 18" in diameter and you can get loads of push fit fittings, traps, pan connectors etc in them.

Just grabbed another 3 supermarket crates someone had dumped by the side of the road.

Well nearly done my racking out will try and post a couple of pictures if anyone is interested :D

Have put the picture up in my album Nice and tidy :D

Let me know what you think.
