Hello

I have just installed a fancy vertical rad, the problem is only half of it is heating up  My suspicion is faulty TRV which is Drayton TR4 which I bought from ebay

I have bled the radiator and actually removed the bleed nut so as to get hot water into the rad. But soon as it cools down I am back to only half a rad heating.

Anything else I can check? Or should I just change the TRV and lockshield

Thanks

Do the tails for the vertical rad come in from the bottom or the side, if they come in from the side sometimes you have knockouts inside the rad that need removing.
Can you post a piccie of the rad

Hi, is the rad at the same height as the cold feed tank or is it a sealed system ie most combis, it could be the radiator is too high ?

If the connections are bottom bottom opposite ends, then there could be no diverter inside the rad, and most of the water is flowing straight through the bottom of the rad, without being diverted to flow up the rad, before flowing down to the return

Tails come in from the bottom, I have a similiar rad in the next room and thats working OK

The boiler is an old Apollo on its last legs so not combi or anything fancy.

Just thought I should add, the half thats warming up is the TRV side so only half warming vertically not hot at bottom and cold at top.

manufaturing fault then no waterways acrossthe top half that or theres an extra plastic cap floating around inside or bit of packaging without seeing the rad cant say if its removable you could swop it round with the other rad if tyheir identical to prove this theory

I can get it to fill with hot water if I take bleed nut right off and let it loads of water out, this would suggest rad is OK ? or am I wrong.

even if blocked youll get water out if its circulating through some of the tubes but not all theres a blockge at the top stoping water getting across the top so only the tubes on the flow side will be circulating basicly its short circuiting
im crap at explaining in words
but im alway wary of b and q i took 20 yards of laminate flooring back because it was distorted and couldnt be laid properly but id written a phone number on one box and next day it was back on the shelves despite being absolutly useless when i asked the manager he just said to mind my own buisness as it was up to them what they sold

Steve that made perfect sense to me, it was a B&Q home delivery and had been opened before so could well be faulty one put back in stock.

Just phoned them to get it changed, all a load of hassle. Thanks for help appreciated. :)

Just thought I would add update.

Returned rad to B&Q got replacement and all is well :)

just adds to the statement, that you dont really save that much by using the sheds, once you've factored in your time.
