Hi All

I have been looking to replace our hotch potch of different designed radiators with some that are more modern and I suspect more efficient. I had been looking at some Milano Aruba vertical which look attractive in shape and colour, the White and Anthracite that I had been thinking of. Anybody fitted them able to comment on the quality, efficiency.

you have to watch there heat output they might be less than you think, and as with any rad needs to be sized correctly
 
As Shaun said, check heat output. I was asked to fit a 1200x600 Type 22 rad a few weeks ago then the woman changed her mind and wanted vertical. I checked the heat output on a 1800 x 500 vertical which turned out was higher than the double rad she had asked for.

Once fitted it was absolutely corking hot, I could feel the heat from over a metre away. One thing to add, most come with four separate hanging brackets and you need to be really careful to ensure they are straight and all touching/holding the weight sufficiently.
 
A lot of vertical radiators have incredibly thin waterways and can cause air trapped making the rad work only partly.
They also often need a good flow of water to them and are best piped from a tee off from close by 22mm - especially if big output IMO. A higher head pump is sometimes needed for these modern narrow waterway rads.
Check as said about heat output because a lot of vertical rads have lower output than their size suggests.
Careful if rad has a flow & return end, or specific connections as joining a flow to a connection that's supposed to be a return connection would mean rad will not work properly due to internal baffle

Good advice, the one I did recently was a off 22mm main to 15mm valves less than 18" away.
 
Thank you for your replies. I have been looking at the outputs that the manufacturers/sellers give. Been looking at a site 'Best Heating' who do pop up ads on this site. They do a 15 year guarantee which seems to be more than some, hoping thats a sign of quality.

I've done the room BTU calculation. Is it better to go oversize and will the TRV's maintain the heat where you want it to be.

I would oversize rads a bit. Try to be consistent if you oversize. What I mean is, if you oversize a rad by 10%, then do the others the same extra %, especially if more than one rad in a room.
TRVs will control the room temperature fairly well, but unfortunately they tend to restrict the flow on vertical radiators IMO
 
Many of these newer vertical radiators seem to have the connection for the radiator tails coming straight down from the bottom of the radiator instead of at the side. This means that the TRV protrudes out from the front of the radiator and is therefore very vulnerable from being knocked off!
Has anybody found any chromed 90° elbow radiator tails which means the TRVs can be positioned at the side of the radiator?
 
Why not use a straight TRV valve and turn the head in 45 degree and have it run parrelel with the radiator
 
Hi, yes, I thought about that but as the flow and return on these radiators (Zehnder) are close together on the left hand side of the radiator it is not possible!

Have you not checked with the radiator manufacturer / supplier to see if they have a valve set that situates the TRV to the side of the panel.

We have used some of them in the past when connecting vertical rads with centre connections.

Just use Chrome Male Fe to Cu elbows 1/2" to 15mm
