as above 9 year old boiler non condensing model. Boiler has a severely scaled heat exchanger. British gas advised a full powerflush of system to which they got an independant in to do the job and charged 400 quid (there for 1.5hrs and told system was clear). Customer then told the problem was the heat exchanger (severe kettling when in use) and was advised to change boiler. They have now came to me, i have priced a heat exchanger up at 200 pound for this boiler but was looking at cleaning it 1st. However i have never cleaned one before and therefore thought i would ask your thoughts and tips, or would you just change it?

I wouldn't bother cleaning it mate. I've one that in the past and still had issues. Replace it. And check the system for sludge because a powerflush done in an hour and a half would worry me.

I agree with you APPlumbing I tried to clean one with f3 cleaner but had no luck.

battery acid worked for me in the past!

thanks lads the flush worries me too and i am stunned they got away with charging 400 quid for it, not a bad hourly rate.
