Hi
got a Job coming up that will involve chasing quite a lot of pipe work away so am thinking of investing in a machine.

have seen 2 x Erbauer in a certain place (that sells screws and fixings!) both for £99.

however there are some out there for over £300-400!!!!

Anyone have any advice on this at all please?

I was given an erbauer one, used it with my hoover and just aswell not have bothered, dust everywhere! It was alright for cutting i suppose but dust extraction is a must tbh. Think of cutting a wall with a diamond disk times two!

check ebay for the hilti ones if you can get them, ive seen them used on jobs and no dust with a hoover attached.

p.s i gave my chaser away, turned out previous guy gave it to me for the same reason!

Depends what you want to spend, what you are cutting into. They all do what they say on the tin.
The more expensive ones have more powerful motors and better blades. The cheaper ones are like either a 5" grinder motor or a small circular saw motor. Not very powerful but will do the job if you don't push it too much and take your time.
If you are only going to be using it now and again maybe the smaller ones would do the trick. Attach it to a hoover and there isn't too much mess.

I've got an old makita that has a 2000 odd watt motor and takes 7" blades. Very powerful but a bit harder to handle than the small ones. I bought it when i was doing refurbs in hotels years ago and it was severely abused but never missed a beat and still works fine.

what are the walls made off? you will get alot of dust about even with a good vac on one. sometimes better to use a light chipa tbh.

I got one from Aldi about 7 years ago, a real dusty machine. it's still going strong and I'll use it when working in empty propertys but I tend to use my angle grinder with henry and then chip it out with a sds.

Mostly grey block as a reasonably modern bungalow - got quite a bit to do so was thinking about making job easier but all that dust sounds like it ain't gonna be that much easier

A decent wall chaser will catch all the dust with a hoover, can you mark all your chases out and hire a chaser and hoover combo?

Well most of the dust... No more than what you get from drilling, the shroud should keep it from flying everywhere

By the time I've hired it for. Day or two I might as well buy one

ebauer one works for me just use a decent vacuunm on it and its going to be messy so a decent respirator is essential

I bought a Bosch breaker years ago, looks heavy and goes through concrete no problem, but it is very light and the 3 inch chisel is great for chases, had it about 15 years now, doesnt cause much dust, but set me back £300 back then.

If it's a one off, invest in a lad and a bolster, tell him £40 for channeling out.
After 3 hours tell him he should have finished an hour ago, although he won't be able to hear you as his ears will be shot for a couple of days after that and he won't be able to punch you because his wrists will have stopped working after the first hour win/win :)

I just do:
- level line and width depending on pipe size
- my makita 18v SDS drill but on chisel only with a chisel bit

Or sometimes if i fancy it the old way of hammer & chisel ;)
