wall mounted toilet advice

Hi all - thanks in adance for any help you can offer.
I'm in the process of renovating a bathroom, so may be on here a fair bit in near future!
I want to install a wall mounted toilet. Will be using grohe/geberit frame mounted in a 'half height' stud wall but the frame will be bolted to the wall and floor.
I don't want tiles behind the toilet but have had conflicting advice as to if the toilet can be mounted back to painted plasterboard/skim?
Lots of suggestions regarding using plywood/aquapanel, but these can't be skimmed.
Will the plasterboard (12.5mm) be ok between the toilet and frame?

Hi there why would you want no tiles or at least panelling?It wont take long in looking grubby esp when little boys miss their aim I suppose plasterboard would do but if someone large sat on the toilet with a thud then bottom section of pan sink into plasterboard.Its worth trying though if it fails tile it..brum

My advise is either board then tile or use a shower wall panel or equivalent, plasterboard alone will fall apart over time.

Yep I agree with the lads, emulsioned plasterboard won't last 2 mins, unless all males are banned from using it !!!

What about a ply pattress the same shape as the toilet?

make sure the frame for the wall hung pan is solid, had one recently that cracked tiles when someone sat on pan, due to no support behind pan, had to redo with 19mm ply then resheet then retile.

Plasterboard Is no good as I found out today when I.Sat on the pan to find the board wasn't tight against the frame and cracked all the board

Still here - thanks for the advice all.
I think I will go for tiles then.....just means another decision to be made!
Aquapanel behind or plywood? Is there any issue with contraction of plywood behind the tiles (which is a fair bit cheaper)?

I've seen it done on plaster before but it looks shocking before long.

Tiles are the way to go. Ply will be fine as long as it's primed correctly. However I'm not sure an 8x4 sheet of marine ply will be cheaper than the one bit of backer board you'd need

I think you could use pb if you are tiling over. Aqua and hardy is for wet areas as it is inert unlike ply which breeds mould. Just make sure the frame is bolted to the floor and wall. Stick an extra noggin under the frame
