Hello all

I'm new here.

Have recently moved into a new flat. I'm putting in a dishwasher. During my initial survey I found the waste attached to the outlet pipe as shown in the attached photo. the white pipe is pushed through a thin sheet of rubber which is glued (not very well) to the top of the pipe to the drains.

I believe there is no trap in the brown pipe and so there is a risk of smells from the drain coming in.

Or perhaps this is ok?

Thanks for the replies there is a trap above the white pipe. I was concerned that the poorly glued rubber seal would allow foul smells into the kitchen. But if that's standard practice I'll just have to accept that. I'd have thought there would have bee a purpose made 32mm to 100mm connector?

My mantra is if it ain't broke then there's no point in trying to fix it. So if no smells or leaks it's not worth bothering about.

If you get smells you can first try to put some silicone around the gaps. If it was me fitting this particular joint I wouldn't be happy leaving it like that but then I don't know if this was the last bit being done at 10:30pm in order to finish the job.

The rubber plug should fit neatly round the white pipe and will have fins where it pushes into the soil pipe.

Thank you all for the replies.

I'll just keep an eye on it.
