Hi, hope you can give some general info before I call a plumber - dreading that one I can tell you!

(General background: I have a property which is ex-council on 8th floor that I rent out. Property empty right now and I'm doing appliance tests).

When running the washing machine, as it empties, the water backs up into the sink - quite a lot. The machine is situated directly next to the sink, so water doesn't have far to 'travel'.

Incidentally water drains away quite slowly from the sink as well.

Do you think a pipe/drain blockage is the problem? What's the remedy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?!

Thanks,

Sharon

Defo blockage in the waste pipe. As you say you are on the 8th floor are your neighbours having similar problems? Is it only the kitchen or bathroom as well? Where are you I love blockages and drains :D

usually means the waste pipe is partially blocked tower blocks around east london all suffer this problem most have pulled copper waste pipes which tend too narrow down on the bends as most are 30m years plus now, regular use of acid cleaner might help break up this but ultimatley is either get it profesionally clean or cut it out and replace in plastic depend where the run goes and how far
