Water continuingly spurting out of pipe next to drain

this stops as i flush the toilet

what to do?

I cant get to the toilet cistern as its behind wood paneling.

???

Can you post picks of the panneling and shelf above so we can sus out how easy it is for you to get in there also where are you in the country as one of the members may be able to come and assist you

i've managed to get to the top of the toilet, as removed some shelving

(sorry if this is a waste of time for you guys, must be a common thing)

the cistern keeps filling to the top, then i guess the excess keeps pouring out

well if you can get to the cistern you just need to change the float valve. isolate the water first and drain the cistern. if its bottom entry you will need to access the base of the cistern.

I think it is bottom entry
shall i post photo's?
How do i isolate the water and drain the cistern
while trying to do this the hook that flushes the toilet has come off, and i cant find where to hook it onto! Grrrr!

on the syphon valve there is a tall part and a short part, you should be able to see a small round part sticking put of the stubby side under where the handle spindle comes through. try and grab that with pliers or something and pull it upyou will then see a hole through it where the hook goes through. pictures are good.

yes side entry is much better just isolate the water to the cistern and flush the toilet no need to drain. just change the inlet valve and away you go. don't forget to fit a new fibre washer between side valve and water feed normally 1/2".

by isolate the water we just mean turn it off. to drain flush the bog, if water is isolated it won't fill up again!
flushing will not drain all the cistern you will need a sponge and keep squeezing in the pan. till done.

remove the existing side entry float valve and fit replacement the same way. if unsure take a pic and off to the merchants and they will sort you out with a replacement and advice on fitting it. if you go to b and q or similar you will get a replacement but no-one knows how to advise you. it is simple really though.

Thanks guys
On my way to buy the component now

but as the hook has come off, i cant find where to hook it on to, so i cant flush the toilet to get rid of the water.

where do i hook the hook onto from the toilet flush??

Best regardo's !

you need a bradawl or a small pair of pliers to either hook through the hole and pull it up or grip it respectively. as you look at the valve it kind of looks like a club foot. imagine the top of the middle of the foot, that is where the rod is that the hook connects to. shine a torch on it and you may see a hole in which to hook a bradawl to lift it up or use pliers on the small bit that is protruding.
