Hi, I am looking for some advice on water filters. I would like to fit one/some with the main aim of getting rid of chlorine in the bath and shower. It would be easiest to fit a whole house system, but it occurred to me that getting the chlorine out of the system at the beginning means that there is nothing to stop bugs etc growing - so it is best to filter it out last minute. There doesn’t seem to be much on the market for baths (seen few for showers) - can I stick a carbon filter (in one of those 10” housings, like Pentek and a few others make) on the hot and cold feed to the bath?

Thanks for any info!

I do not believe chlorine levels would be that high in what is drinking water.
The levels are nowhere near what the are in swimming pools etc.
You may spend alot of money for no result.
I used to itch like crazy after showers and found removing shower gels etc solved it. They are full of chemicals, so are washing powders/conditioners. I find Radox is the worst.
Showers are common for legionnaires disease so no chlorine might not be a good idea.

lmao, I install filters for people who can smell the chlorine etc etc and then they never change the filter again and continue to swear they are working!!!!!!!!! It's all in the mind, all those drinking bottled water are probably killing themselves with all the PCBs leaching from the plastic :) the amount of chlorine is miniscule and most evaporates if its stored in a old cwsc in an attic, but they never believe you.

*grins* having a nephew who reacts quite ...well extremely badly to chlorine, tap water is fine for him.

the amount in it is so so minuscule its all in your mind, someone has said it or you have read it, now you perceive it to be there.

You'll find skin irritation usually comes from the shower gel or soap your using.

I don't wash I have a full body steam pedicure with steam made entirely from babies Tibetan babies tears. I use dust free biomass to heat the steam directly.

After being air dried with stored and filtered volcanic sulphur dioxide.

I sit down in my primarc clothes which were made with no sense of pollution control, washed in bio and tubledried.

Eat my organic ( full of chemical additives and sugar) chilli . The beef in the chilli is British - well Argentine, processed in NI. And jamb packed with steroids and then have a lovely glass of filtered puss / milk?

You filter your puss? Missing all the roughage…

True about Legionnaires etc- that was why I though it best to remove it at the very end - right at the faucet.
True also that bottled water has a few problems connected with it. Some sediment filters for domestic use have polypropylene filters, which add the same hazard.
But I do really smell the chlorine, and it’s not meant to be too good for you. We use E45 for our 4 yr old, and he is still a bit itchy. Also the shower screen gets a lots of scale (different problem I know, but the filters work for that, and the scale probably give a good rule of thumb for when the filter needs a change)
So I have been looking for inline filters for the hot and cold feeds to the bath - not much out there, but quite a few for showers. (Lame Plumber - I’d be one of those boneheads forgetting to change the filters. But at least I’d have the option!)

Ahhhh so u have a poorly one sorry for my sarcasm,

Probably avoid any type of soap, have u contacted supplier may be a supply issue?

Try some chemistry set the ph? Or add a buffer solution to capture Cl or even a lump of sodium? ( don't use sodium)

You can quite often smell the chlorine in the water round here. Because the water is ground run off I think it is probably more heavily dosed than water from bore holes.

Quite a few years ago I was feeling a bit under the weather and went to the quacks. After some tests my liver function tested were coming back as impaired. This went on for a few months, each time I was tested there was no improvement. I was chatting to someone who was installing a reverse osmosis filtration unit for someone on dialysis which got me thinking. I fitted a drinking water filter and within a month my liver function was back to normal. I think that I had some sort of virus that damaged my liver. Once I shook the virus off the liver should have regenerated itself but the chlorine in the water was just enough to prevent this. Removing the chlorine allowed my liver to regenerate. For a fully healthy person there is probably not enough chlorine to cause problems but if you are ill it's one more poison you are introducing to your body.

Due to rust staining from the mains water I've since started filtering the whole house and the water feels different when you are showering, almost less abrasive.

Interesting - thanks Mike. I grew up in a soft water area, and the feel of the water is quite different.

Killy Bing - I am not sure he has eczema, but he scratches himself at night a lot. It could be detergent or some other factor.

I just figure that for my son, there is no point bathing him in chlorinated water if I don't have to, and the same for me and my other-half. I really notice the smell of chlorine when we run a bath (maybe a lot evaporates after it is run, I don't know).

Btw, has anyone fitted filters to stop scale buildup in appliances ?

By the time you have fitted all these scale reducers to each outlet it would of been better and cheaper to fit a softener. Will still be better for the skin and you won't have to use as much cleaning/washing products. ( obviously leaving one drinking water tap)

I know there is a filter about 4" long and is inline ! I don't know who makes it but I remember that it had life time guarantee and it come at about £500.00
Plumbing shop is in South Ruislip (Middlesex) shop name is RW plumbing .... Google it and ring them tomorrow and ask for Peter or Tonny . Just say Stan from safe gas install mention to you about this filter
