Water heating problem.

Hi could anyone help me with a problem i'm having.
We have an electric boiler that heats the water a rather lage tank with two switches. We used to put both switches on when we wanted hot water which cost a fortune but never filled a bath even half way with hot water, anyway the electrician came out yesterday and said that we wer doing it wrong he said that we only need the back switch on as that is economy and that we should keep it on all day and will always have hot water availiable and that if we need a top up put the first switch on for a little while.
Well that was at 4pm yesterday the switch is still on but the water is now cold.
I know if i turn the first switch on it will warm up but he said i only need the back economy switched on and i should have enough hot water yet i have none, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

if you are getting hot water for long periods elsewhere then it could be one of two things, your immersion stat is faulty and is cutting off early, or could be the cylinder stat not working correctly these would account for short bursts of hot water, but im no expert and im sure it could be a number of other things but it is hard to diagnose without knowing exactly what your set up is... hope this helps a little !!

What the plumber told you is correct,however sounds like the bottom immersion heater,which is the cheap rate one has burnt out thus not heating any water

You are using/only have the booster operational,this is why you only get a part bath full of hot water,also this is an expensive way of heating water

You should get someone in to replace the bottom,economy seven immersion heater,that heats the full tank up over night,make sure they put a incloy one in,it lasts a lot longer and your lecy bills will drop quite a lot
