water pump pliers

hi all.... im relatively new to plumbing and im after a half decent pair of pump plier,, which one's do u recommend thanks men..

I got a set of 3 Rothenbergers for about £40 the other day.....8",10"and 12" ,i got them form ebay through a company called Bradford Bathrooms and as i live in B radford,no postage but if i remember it wasnt much anyway,hope this helps.

yeah have seen rothenbergers pump pliers in b and q,, ive noticed they do a set with a v shaped jaw and another with straight jaw,, what are the difference?

also they do alot of replica type pliers which look similar to rothenberger pumps,, are they any good? thanks

I prefer blue channel grips. Not a fan of Roth grips

I use Rothenberger. Almost bombproof!

I know knippex get a few more shouts on here but I wouldn't buy any tools without having a good grope!!!

The best grips you can buy and after you try them you will know why.
You can buy alligators for £14 -£18 for a 10" set.

Rothenberg have improved in the past few years but they are still slightly out on their sizing for half inch and 3/4" nuts (slot 4 and 6)

Recently bought a pair of ck 1s off amazon after I lost my knipex pliers quite impressed by them and really like the grip. Amazon:Ck Water pump pliers while I was waiting on my new pliers being delivered I bought £4 1s from hombase you really notice the difference when using cheap tools

im a footprints man keep a pair of pump pliers for when i need a slim end only
ive never understood why they are called pump pliers as the are useless for pump nuts probably from the days of pumps with a handle you could just about use them to get the split pin out

I am the same, - just Footprints for the " rougher" work & adjustable spanners for most of the rest. Guess it's what you are used to. I have been given a new pair of pump pliers & am trying to use them for those little jobs that suit them. Maybe I have been missing out! Wonder can you still buy the wheel adjustable Footprints? As they are great for exact size.

I had a pair of Bahco grips and didn't really like them, but I lost them anyway! So I replaced them with some Knipex Cobra's from PTS (got them at a really good price, think it was wrong) and I loved them. Really were the best, until I lost the bloody things about 3 weeks ago. Tried to get them back, but I haven't heard anything from the tenant and I left them in a house that was an hour and a half away from home, so the drive back wouldn't be worth it. Just ordered a new pair off eBay.
Since loosing my Cobra's, I have been forced to use the Allegators, which aren't a patch on the Cobra's IMO. Still quite good though.

I have just lost my bahco slip joint grips on a job last week, and i am absolutely gutted. Had them for nearly 3 years and saved me quite a few times. However they are quite pricey.

I,ve just replaced the alligators with the cobras, been a great move. had the alligators for best part of 20 yrs & sometimes theyd slip of the nut & nip the skin. cobras definetely hold better.

Cobras are excellent quality grips and that is a decent price. I prefer alligators but that is a personal thing.
