I'm looking for the valve to turn off the water in my brothers house so we can replace the floorboards under the bath, we've checked under the sink, there is a screw valve which we turned off but it seems to control the water pressure only, cant find anything else, anyone got any ideas where it might be?

thanks. There's the boiler under the stairs with a shut off valve which we turned off, and the screw valve under the sink, but pressure seems to be coming though to the upstairs where the bathroom is, if its in the front garden would it be attached to the house or somewhere else?

You need to look for the water storage tank, in the lift or cupboard high up in a bedroom there will be a valve on the pipe that comes out near the base of the tank.
The water you can't shut off is tank fed not mains.
