Water Softener Part 2

Hi all,

As I'm a little out of my comfort zone where plumbing is concerned, I'd like to ask you all for some advice.

I installed a water softener a few years ago (probabably 7 or 8) and it has given great service. However, more recently, whilst it continues to consume salt, it doesn't seem to soften the water anymore.

I wondered if anyone could tell me whether this is simply a sign of it coming to the end of it's life or if there is something I can do to return it full operational ability?

Have you checked the waste outlet where it goes into a gully or waste pipe to see if its continually running?

May be worthwhile running a resin cleaner thro it at the age it is (just do a web search for water softener resin cleaner)
Most of softener manufactures provide after service but tends to be around £120 upwards plus parts
As you can probably get a new softener for around £400 that's way to go

I haven't but I think I can, so I will do.

I was basing the fact that it wasn't working as it should be on the feel of the water (it makes a huge difference where I am) and the kettles getting a little scaled up again.

Hi Guys,

Just to offer some closure here, I ran a Resin cleaner through my water softener a week or so ago and I'm delighted to say normal service has now been restored!
