yes, as long as the stat is working there is no need to change it.

so if i cant, if i change it to this one, will i only be able to switch the heating on every time?
as at the moment i can manually just switch the hot water if i want, which i do in the summer,

have a look at the back of the timer to see how many wires there are. if there are six you should be ok with the new one. be careful though one or more will be live.

Most older systems are setup gravity hot water & pumped heating. Ie if u want hw the boiler fires but the pump doesn't run, the cylinder is heated by the gravity circuit, it u want heating then the boiler fires and the pump runs to circulate heated water to the rads and the water will be heated anyway. U either have, hw only or hw + ch. To get separate operation involves a fair bit of work.

It is a gravity system.
There is only 1 cable coming from the boiler to the timer unit.

What is the best thing to do?

Thanks

It depends what u want.
If u want separate hw & ch then there's a fair bit of work to it. Especially if u have a primatic cylinder.

Or u could just replace the timer for a new one and leave it as is

You can still use the above programmer. Set the jumper on the back for 10 program.
You would need to upgrade your system to allow separate control.

If it is a basic gravity system with pumped heating, yes it can be made to switch on HW only or CH and HW. There should be more wires than one from the boiler to the clock tho.
Maybe best to get someone in to do it for you.

You should be able to have HW only or CH and HW control with your old Randall.
