Just wondered what you guys do when you're called to a job which requires all the laminate flooring to be taken up.
Do you factor in a specialist for replacing this flooring once the job is complete, or do you just replace yourself.
How do you address this problem with the customer?
Just curious.

First shudder, think oh crap and then tell them I can get under it but it's down to them to replace. I did once take up a couple of boards with my fein cutter. The bloke slipped some cardboard under and glued the boards back down.

Think it's a customer by customer basis, if it's an oap then I'll sort it for them as part of the job and charge for it. Other than that I would let cust sort.

Cheers Simon, I thought that might be the case.
I was wondering if you plumbing lads kept good relations with a your local laminate fitters and had them on hand to do the necessary lifting and replacements.
Laminate is relatively new, so it's going to be a future headache for all plumbers.

It's the old glued stuff that's the nightmare. The newer stuff isn't too bad. I do get asked to do the odd laminate floor so I have the bits to do it. But it's like anything I'm not as quick at doing it as the pro's and I explain that to the custs. But whilst you're there it can save working round an extra body, if that makes sense. :)

If it's the wood stuff a new metal recip blade to cut out and advise custard how to fix. Glue and wax filler . Laminate is horrid to lift .... If they are able bodied we ask that they remove and relay. Did an old gate house a while back and bloke lifted it without a mark and reinstalled it in same manner I was gobsmacked!

just rip it up with a cir saw and throw it in the skip. ;)

i normally tell the customer its up to them to remove and refit. If they dont like that idea i give them the number of a carpenter and tell them to arrange it.

I ask them if they can get it up, if they want us to I can't be liable for any damage etc.
