just posting out of intrest is there anyone who only does wet plumbing. ie every thing non gas related. i am busy enough with my jetting, cctv etc but if things turn slow i may do a bit of emergency work ie bursts, washers etc. looking through my local yellow pages all the plumbers have gas safe. just a wee bit of forward planning as my renewal for yellow pages is due.

dont think youll get much plumbing work off yellow pages, seems 1/2 the uk plumbers advertise there!!!!

yellow pages has worked realy well for me. i saw a example of the new book last week and was further impressed, its about half the size as the last one, just as thick though. also kind of thinking i dont want to **** off the plumbers that pass me jetting work.

i think you will find the 'book' is smaller as less are advertising in it. i may be wrong but it dont include my ad anymore.
i should have thought your line is best with mortgage lenders and insurance companies?.

just looking to keep options open as the big boys in this area are creeping into domestic works as things are getting very slow for them. its getting harder to find 3 wages every week. As i said i looking in to the long term. in with homserve and local assesors.

dean have you got any qualifications in plumbing or do you just specialise in drains ?

i know a lot of people whove started drains.... one was a salesman ones a club promoter, they sort of do it as a side to other jobs - got themselves the van etc - its another way of decimating the plumbing trade into further trades.

i would think you would be best offering at least an emergency service being able to fix any problems you come across.

i offer gas in my employed job - but only wet side in my part time business - will be registered in my own business early next year and will probably faze out being employed to go on my own. I am hoping he takes on an apprentice this sept so we can train him up and get him ready for when i leave.

i have an HNC in Civil Engineering and ive done a 4 week plumbing course (please note i am not calling myself a plumber) and my drain work is not just jetting, we do new installations for extensions etc, some small civils ie car wash beds, i did toy with the idea of doing water pipe replacements/installation but would require a bit of investment in new van/tools so there is no cross contamination. one of my men is time served plumber (he always gets the akward internal jobs)

like most people just now i am keeping an open mind and looking for future opertunities.
