What is a backrack and what does it do?

Plumber fixing a leak on my brothers vaillant said their was a lot of rust crumbling away from the backrack and he would need to order a new one. He quoted £550 supply fit. What does a backrack do?

The back rail (rack as you’re calling it) has quite a lot of the hydraulics attached with seals, which can often need replacing, usually due to a leak from the condensate hose. It can be quite time consuming to replace.
