Hi,

In my shower room there is a pipe that runs down from the ceiling. The waste from the sink feeds into it. It is a single floor flat and the pipe appears to have no use, there is not flat above mine. No water appears to run down it.

What is it for? Do I need it because I would like to remove it. I can send pictures if this helps.

Thanks. :)

sounds like an internal stack to me:cool:

Hi. From what you describe it may well be a vent pipe, that is present to maintain air flow within the soil/waste and drainage system. It not a good idea to cap it off. As it may result in sewer gases being allowed into the building via sanitary fitting.
